Artiste Statement

Art has been a central part of my life as long as I can remember. The creative attempts of my childhood which to most people would probably look more like acts of destruction have been refined over the years and put to better uses. I'm a graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in interior design and I've gone through a foundation year immersed in abstract, 3 Dimensional, architecture, still-life,graphic, illustration, art history, Printmaking, sculpture etc...

Initally, interior was my main focus, but a coupl of years of experimenting with space planning, design concepts and materials has lead to my current profession.

I've always had dreams of working with children, as well as exploring more arts, this lead me to join the National Institue of Education in 2002. I felt blessed to have so many role models. To be involved with people who passionately create and delicated to making art at a driving force in their lives. The confidence and belief I see in these artists who've worked hard to support themselves with their art inspires me to keep working towards that, knowing that it is possible. I feel very supported and enjoy the dynamics of everyone working together to achieve our goals as an artist cum educator.

It took quite some time for me to get to know and feel connected, but it is happening now. The greatest compliement is to see my students achieving what they want in art. No one has really tried to shape and direct me, which I think is the best way to encourage honest vision, creativity and ample space.
